Honor God by Honoring Your Body: A Faith-Fueled Approach to Fat Loss

Have you ever looked in the mirror and felt discouraged by what you saw—wishing that the extra belly fat could just vanish? You’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me frustrated and overwhelmed, feeling stuck in bodies they no longer recognize.

But here’s the truth: your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), and caring for it is one way you can honor the Lord. While physical transformation doesn't happen overnight, there is a clear, powerful path you can take—not just for your health, but as an act of worship.

Today, I want to share a faith-fueled, two-pronged approach to help you shed unwanted fat while drawing closer to God in the process.

Prong #1: Eliminate Sugar and Invite Self-Control

This first step is simple, but not always easy: remove refined sugar from your diet. Scripture tells us that “everything is permissible,” but not everything is beneficial (1 Corinthians 10:23). Excess sugar not only harms your body—it can hijack your energy, your focus, and even your emotions. It’s often a hidden idol, providing momentary comfort that ultimately leads to more struggle.

Take a moment to prayerfully evaluate your daily eating habits. Are you relying on sugar to lift your mood, calm your nerves, or provide a quick pick-me-up? If so, bring that desire to the Lord. Ask Him to be your true source of comfort and strength.

Start choosing foods that nourish and strengthen your body: lean meats, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and plenty of water. By exercising self-control—a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)—you’re not just cutting calories; you’re cultivating discipline that honors God.

Prong #2: Train with Intensity and Purpose

Your body was made to move, and movement is a beautiful way to glorify the One who created you. But many people go through the motions in their workouts, staying comfortable, never truly challenging themselves.

Let’s shift that mindset. Scripture reminds us to “run in such a way as to win the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24). That doesn’t mean perfection, but it does mean pushing yourself beyond what’s easy. When you move your body with purpose and intensity, you're not just burning fat—you’re building endurance, perseverance, and grit.

Yes, intense workouts can be uncomfortable. But so is spiritual growth. We grow when we’re stretched. So invite God into your workout time. Let it be a space where you thank Him for your body, surrender your limitations, and ask for strength to keep going when it gets tough.

The best way to train both safely and effectively is with the support of a qualified, faith-driven fitness coach. I’d love to walk alongside you—not only to help you reach your goals, but to help you grow stronger in your walk with Christ.

Flat Zucchini Noodles with Parm

Here’s a guilt-free pasta recipe for you! You won’t need a spiral slicer for this one, simply use a regular veggie peeler – like the kind you would use to peel the skin from a potato – to create long, flat zucchini noodles. This recipe has a scrumptious, nutty flavor that will make you forget all about traditional noodles. Feel free to serve with some sliced chicken breast, sliced hard-boiled eggs or steak for added protein. Enjoy!

What you need
Serves 4

1 teaspoon coconut oil
Pinch of salt
1 Tablespoon almond flour
4 large zucchinis, peeled with a veggie peeler
2 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more to taste)
1 Tablespoon minced parsley
¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, about two minutes. Add the coconut oil, and once it’s melted, add the almond flour and a pinch of salt.

2. Stir often with a wooden spoon, until it’s toasty brown, about two minutes. Remove crumbs from the pan and save for garnish.

3. In the same skillet, add the peeled zucchini noodles. Sauté them until just tender, about one to two minutes. Turn heat to low.

4. In a new pan on low heat, combine olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes, stirring with a spoon until fragrant, about 20 seconds.

5. Transfer the zucchini noodles to garlic and oil mixture. Toss and stir until they’re coated.

6. Turn off the heat and add parsley, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle with almond flour crumbs before serving. Enjoy!
